With Ken Glah - who was lining up for his.... wait for it..... 25th Hawaii Ironman!! Amazing. So who's a happy boy to finish the swim??Well it was terrific for the first 50k. Sitting on 42kph and having a ball. Ninety seconds later the wind had changed 180 degrees and I was doing 22kph wondering what the hell had just happened.A dream come true.... finishing the Hawaii Ironman.... emerging from the darkness into the corridor of noise and light on Ali'i Drive. Just brilliant.

I was amazed how silent the highway gets. Concentrating on keeping the hr down, being aero, and with few people around, I was drifting into la la land. Luckily the buzzing past of the draft motorbike scared me into focus.

Feeling a tough patch come on I concentrated on form and getting back to my supporters. "you look great, how you feeling?" they yelled. "Strong... Great" I replied. Blatant lies.
My number one priority became to not walk until I got to the entrance of the energy lab. It took forever but I got there ready to walk my first ever steps in 4 Ironman races. Then I saw Peter Reid cheering people on. No way was I stopping there.
